A TRIBUTE TO SIFU JAYES' MOTHER

I started formal training in 1976, studying Tae Kwon Do from some traditional Korean instructors, for about 5 years in Fairfield, California while my Step Father Inus G. Crawford was stationed at Travis Air Force Base, and for an additional 2 more years when we moved to Parsons, Kansas. Later I would study Shotokan Karate, Kempo Karate, Wrestling and Shush Win Tai Do for several years before finally finding a complete art; one that would amend my prior martial arts studies and training.

Pai Te Lung (or Pai Lum for short) served as my new foundation, encompassing both the striking arts with the ground fighting, making me a much better and more complete martial artist. I obtained the rank of Sifu (1st degree black sash/belt) within 3 1/2 years (which was no small feat in itself) under the direction of Grandmaster Larry Collins (Si Tai Gung Collins) on the 21st day of October, 2000. Holding true to the Pai Te Lung tradition, I was adopted by Grandmaster as his son on the 4th day of November 2000. Upon Grandmaster Collins' request, and my desire to keep the art alive for the next generation of Pai Te Lung practitioners, I decided to teach. Later that same year, we celebrated the grand opening of the White Dragon Academy of Kung Fu located in downtown Pittsburg, Kansas.

Although, at times the journey has been tedious, I continue to teach, lead and train by example. Through my hard work and determination, I was promoted to Master (Si Gung / 4th degree black sash/belt) on the 21st of March 2009.

I would first like to say thank you to my Mother for her advice, unforeseen insight and impeccable wisdom. Most importantly for not only placing me on the path of a martial artist (by her support & encouragement) providing me with an opportunity to improve my self discipline. Through focus of the self discipline that is incorporated in the study of the martial arts i was not only able to develop a deeper understanding of morals and family values, but also able to gain control over my temper. At the early age of 7 years old, in order to improve my self discipline, I began what has evolved into a lifelong and devoted journey into the martial arts.
